  • Yoncheva blazes in an incendiary role debut, her Norma is a good deal closer to the legendary Greek soprano Maria Callas on the vocal spectrum than many would have wagered. A striking production and a terrifically enjoyable evening.
    Mark Pullinger, BACKTRACK
A powerful production. Soprano Yoncheva is hugely impressive, commanding the stage. Well worth catching in cinemas.
    Barry Millington, THE EVENING STANDARD

New Production! Àlex Ollé of innovative Catalan theatre group La Fura dels Baus will direct the first ROH staging of Bellini’s classic bel canto opera on love and honour in nearly thirty years. Full of wonderful melodies and opportunities for star singing, Ollé will bring a modern edge to this timeless tale of love, rivalry and betrayal, setting it against a backdrop of civil war driven by the extremes of a fanatically religious society.

Royal Opera Music Director Antonio Pappano will conduct a superlative cast featuring Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva as Norma, Joseph Calleja as her secret lover, Pollione, Sonia Ganassi as the priestess Adalgisa and Brindley Sherratt as Norma's father Oroveso.

Screening at all locations, excl. Riverside. The times listed above for Balwyn are now confirmed.
