  • This is the sort of singing that makes the heart leap. With elegant sets and superlative musicianship, Verdi came to life in a house where he is revered most. We left with full stomachs and spinning heads.

New Production! After the two traditional Aidas staged by Zeffirelli in the last decade at La Scala, the sublime archaeological fable without a happy ending is presented here by two great masters: Peter Stein, the great German director, who promised “eine ganz intime Aida”, a totally intimate Aida, and conductor Zubin Mehta.

In this archive recording of the quintessential lyric opera, captured live in 2015, the luminous American soprano Kristin Lewis stars as the doomed Ethiopian princess, joined by acclaimed Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili as her rival Amneris.

La Scala

Milan's famous Teatro alla Scala was inaugurated on 3 August 1778. Apart from its sheer beauty and size, La Scala's acoustics are said to be perfect. One of the leading opera and ballet theatres in the world, the venue is home to the La Scala Theatre Chorus, La Scala Theatre Ballet and La Scala Theatre Orchestra, as well as the La Scala Theatre Academy.
