Ballet in three acts (1948)
New Production! A perfect Mothers Day treat for Australian audiences... will we see you at the ball?
Experience a new production of Royal Ballet Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton’s classic ballet and be transported to an ethereal world where dreams blossom. Celebrating its 75th anniversary this Season, Cinderella makes a welcome return to the Royal Opera House stage with new set and costume designs.
Ashton's adaptation of Charles Perrault’s famous rags-to-riches fairytale received its premiere in 1948 - with Moira Shearer and Michael Somes in the lead roles - and was received rapturously. It has gone on to become a Royal Ballet classic, with the choreographer’s deft musicality and the beauty of Prokofiev’s transcendent score enduring.
After a decade away from Covent Garden, a creative team steeped in the magic of theatre, film, dance and opera (including Oscar & BAFTA-winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne, Tony & Olivier Award-winning video designer Finn Ross, and illusionist Chris Fisher) brings new atmosphere to Cinderella’s ethereal world of fairy godmothers and pumpkin carriages, handsome princes and finding true love.
Royal Ballet Principal dancers Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov perform the lead roles of Cinderella and the Prince.
