Opera in three acts and seven scenes (1879)

New Production! Teatro alla Scala presents a new production of Tchaikovsky’s most-loved opera, a story of unrequited romance and tragic honour drawn from Pushkin’s literary classic.

Acclaimed soprano Aida Garifullina stars as Tatyana, the naïve young girl who grows into a sophisticated beauty. Baritone Alexey Markov sings the title role of the nobleman who lives to regret his blasé rejection of her love and his careless incitement of a duel with his best friend Lensky (Dmitry Korchak).

Tchaikovsky’s tender and poetic music is entrusted to the exciting Timur Zangiev, and staging is in the hands of prolific theatre and film director Mario Martone, now in his tenth La Scala production.

La Scala

Milan's famous Teatro alla Scala was inaugurated on 3 August 1778. Apart from its sheer beauty and size, La Scala's acoustics are said to be perfect. One of the leading opera and ballet theatres in the world, the venue is home to the La Scala Theatre Chorus, La Scala Theatre Ballet and La Scala Theatre Orchestra, as well as the La Scala Theatre Academy.
