  • Fuflills all expectations! Tézier blew me away with one of the all time great pieces of Verdi baritone singing. Netrebko was irresistible, very close to perfection. Muscato’s new staging is both eye-catching and ambitious.

Opera in four acts (1862)

New Production! La Scala’s gala season opening is always a glittering affair, and a highlight of the international arts calendar.

This year a prestigious cast that includes Anna NetrebkoBrian Jagde and Ludovic Tézier assembles for a new production of Verdi’s grand tale of ill-fated love The Force of Destiny, directed by Leo Muscato.

Riccardo Chailly conducts a work that offers some of Verdi’s most memorable melodies, including its haunting overture, the rousing 'Rataplan' march and Leonora's soaring prayer, 'La vergine degli angeli'.

Please note programme change: the previously billed Jonas Kauffmann was forced to withdraw from this production for family reasons. [updated 20/11/24]
