  • Full and clear, the Costanzi orchestra is in a state of grace. From the very moment she appeared on stage, Buratto lived and breathed Tosca wholeheartedly, without reservation... The applause sealed her triumph.

Eye-poppingly gorgeous. everything here is a perfect visual replica, right down to the evocative amber light that floods the church in the mornings.

Opera in three acts (1900)

To celebrate the 125th anniversary of Puccini's most Roman masterpiece, Opera di Roma - in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Rai Cultura - staged a special performance of Alessandro Talevi’s celebrated recreation, broadcast to a prime time Italian audience of over half a million viewers.

Created in collaboration with the Archivio Storico Ricordi, Talevi's staging - originally presented in 2015 - is a remarkable revival of the opera's original 1900 production. Vividly recreating the opera’s site-specific Roman settings, the gorgeous sets and costumes (by Carlo Savi and Anna Biagiotti respectively) painstakingly reconstruct Adolf Hohenstein's original designs, crafted by hand using traditional techniques.

On the podium is Antonino Fogliani, while the exceptional leading voices on stage include Eleonora Buratto (Tosca), Jonathan Tetelman (Cavaradossi), and Luca Salsi (Scarpia).

Please note programme change: conductor Antonino Fogliani replaced the previously billed Daniel Oren for this performance. [updated 4 Nov 25]

Opera di Roma

Taking its current name at the advent of the republic, Rome’s beautiful opera house, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma was first inaugurated in 1880, as Teatro Costanzi. The company hosted the world premiere of Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and Puccini’s Tosca among others.
