4 stars. Exquisitely realised. Kaufmann, with his convincingly heroic presence, and the sheer beauty of his singing, brings the house down. Each aria is perfection incarnate.
Michael Church, THE INDEPENDENT

David McVicar directs a new production of Umberto Giordano's passionate drama of liberty and love in the French Revolution. It presents a fictionalised account of the life of the pre-Romantic French poet who was guillotined during the Reign of Terror in 1794. Acclaimed tenor Jonas Kaufmann (“One of the great singers of our time” –SMH) stars; his three arias provide highlights in a production that also offers major opportunities to Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek as his beloved Maddalena. Antonio Pappano, Music Director of The Royal Opera, conducts.

The captured live cinema screening will be presented by British actor, writer and director, Richard E. Grant.
