Drama in one act (1905)

New Production! From maestro Riccardo Chailly and director Damiano Michieletto, this gripping and highly intelligent La Scala staging combines visual impact and dramaturgical depth.

Promised anything she wants by her Stepfather King Herod (Gerhard Siegel), Salome (radiant soprano Elena Stikhina) demands the head of the prophet Jochanaan (Wolfgang Koch), a prisoner who has turned down her desire. But it comes at a price.

Based on Oscar Wilde’s scandalous play, Strauss’ masterpiece and its famous "Dance of the seven veils” conclusion has the same power to shock as it did when first performed.
